Transportation

Getting to and around the Keweenaw takes some planning. But isn’t it that way for any place worth visiting? Getting here usually means a nice long road trip, hopefully with friends or family. But a solo journey often hits the spot.

Those looking for a quicker route can fly in via Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX), located in Hancock, with direct flights from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).

Once you’re in the Keweenaw, getting around is part of the fun. Grab a paddle or rent a sled to reach some of our remote parts. Or take a ride by ferry or seaplane to experience one of the last true wilderness areas in the lower forty-eight: Isle Royale National Park.  Be sure to ride over (or under) the iconic Portage Lake Lift Bridge which is often referred to as the “gateway” of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
