Partnership

Visit Keweenaw promotes Michigan’s Houghton and Keweenaw Counties as destinations for tourism creating demand for the area’s hotels, motels, resorts, cabins, B&Bs and vacation rentals.  Through our marketing efforts, we attract visitors from across the Midwest and throughout the United States who need a place to stay while they enjoy our trails, waters, restaurants, shops and more!

Who Are Our Partners?

Visit Keweenaw’s partners are 40+ lodging properties in Houghton & Keweenaw Counties who collect a 6% room assessment on overnight lodging sales. Our marketing efforts and other services are funded through this assessment. The assessment was established under Michigan Public Act 395 of 1980. Properties with more than 10 units used for the purpose of commercial short-term lodging (less than 30 days) are required to collect the assessment; however, businesses with less than 10 units may voluntarily join.

Why Partnerships Matter

The Keweenaw is a special place, but destination marketing is a competitive landscape. Visitors have a nearly infinite number of destinations to choose from, and each destination is seeking to attract travelers because of the social and economic benefits of tourism.

By partnering together as an industry, we pool resources (funding, time, and expertise) to execute a competitive marketing program generating demand for room night sales.  This allows our partners to focus on what they do best: offering an exceptional hospitality customer service experience. It also collects resources that allows for destination development investments that improve the visitor experience, support for community events that draw visitors to the region and engage local and state leadership on issues that are important to our industry.
