Enhanced Visitor Experience at the Open Skies Project

Thanks to a $6,000 grant from Visit Keweenaw’s Destination Development Fund, the Open Skies Project has installed safety railings atop the radar tower at Mount Horace Greeley. This enhancement provides secure access to one of the Keweenaw’s most breathtaking panoramic views, allowing visitors to safely enjoy vistas of Lake Superior, Mount Bohemia, and the surrounding forests. The installation was carried out by the Open Skies Project team, furthering their mission to preserve and share this Cold War-era site.

This initiative is part of Visit Keweenaw’s broader efforts to support community-driven projects that enhance outdoor recreation and cultural heritage across Houghton and Keweenaw counties.
