Maybe a Michigan fall is measured in hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkins and apple cider. The kind of afternoons spent outside until the light starts to fade. The crunch of leaves underfoot. A little chill in the air, but not enough to send you home. The familiar places you visited every year, and the traditions that somehow followed you into adulthood. That same feeling is waiting in the Copper Country.
Fall in the Keweenaw is a beautiful in-between: summer still lingering in the golden daylight, autumn settling into the turning leaves, and a whole season of farms, festivals, scenic drives and community gatherings unfolding in between. At Palosaari Corn Maze in Chassell, the work of fall begins long before visitors arrive. Corn is planted in spring, pumpkins are grown through summer, and by late September, the farm is ready for another season of family fun and familiar faces. It’s the kind of place that can become part of your Copper Country story, too.
Canal Colors Festival hits downtown Houghton the first weekend of October, and it’s all about that U.P. fall vibe — flannels, good beer, fresh air, and fall colors!
Located just south of Chassell along US-41, Palosaari Corn Maze is a family-run farm attraction bringing classic autumn fun to Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. At the heart of the experience is a challenging corn maze, carefully designed and planted each year with a new layout. A kid-friendly scavenger hunt within the maze gives little explorers an extra reason to keep finding their way through.

There’s plenty more to discover beyond the maze, including pumpkins, wagon rides, pedal carts, a kids’ play area, a corn box, farm animals and local food vendors. The farm also makes its own apple cider, adding another taste of the season to this quintessential fall farm experience.
The Palosaari Corn Maze opens late September through October, and offers seasonal fall fun throughout the autumn season.
