Long Live Jibba Jabba

History of Keweenaw Winter Streetstyle

If you’ve been part of the Keweenaw snowboarding community for a while, you may remember Jibba Jabba from its early days — a gritty, grassroots snowboard event that once packed downtown Houghton. After more than a decade on pause, the event returned in 2023, driven by the passion and determination of Jenn Reed, owner of Minnie Farms (then working at the former Rhythm Bike & Board Co.), and her husband Dustin Reed, a lifelong snowboarder and expert course builder.

Jenn approached the City of Houghton with the idea of bringing Jibba Jabba back, and together with Visit Keweenaw — now the event’s top sponsor — the three formed the core planning team that makes the event happen each year: Visit Keweenaw + City of Houghton + Jenn & Dustin Reed.

Dustin leads the technical side of the event, designing and building the course using more than 20 years of terrain-park and freestyle riding experience. His grasp of rider flow, feature design, and street-style creativity is what gives Jibba Jabba its unmistakable professional character.

From the start, the revived event was supported and elevated by a collection of community sponsors and partners, including Rhythm Bike & Board Co., Studio 13, Mont Ripley, Northern Specialty Health, Incredible Bank, Industrial Graphics, Red Bull, and Rodeo Mexican Kitchen. Their support helped fuel the event’s comeback and amplify the energy that now defines Jibba Jabba weekend.

Jibba Jabba’s return in 2023 marked the beginning of a new era. Now heading into its fourth consecutive year since the revival, the event has grown into one of the Copper Country’s most exciting winter traditions — blending professional snowboarding, community collaboration, and downtown Houghton’s unmistakable energy.
