The Winter Carnival at Michigan Technological University is more than just an event—it’s a tradition that has brought generations of MTU Huskies and Copper Country locals together for over 100 years. Run by the Blue Key National Honor Society, this celebration of snow, ice, and community invites students and visitors alike to take part in building impressive snow statues, exploring stunning ice sculptures, and enjoying the chilly fun of outdoor sports. With its wide array of events, communities bustling with Carnival spirit, and access to the great Copper Country outdoors - Winter Carnival offers something for everyone, making it the perfect reason to plan a winter trip to the Keweenaw!
Michigan Tech Winter Carnival centers around the Keweenaw's mid-winter, when the area has typically accumulated several hundred inches of snow. While statue preparations and student-centric events begin at the turn of each new year, the main Winter Carnival events span a 4 day extravaganza open to the public that encompasses statue building, outdoor fun, sports, and student-led entertainment! Whether you're in town only for the main Winter Carnival days or are enjoying a leisurely Keweenaw visit in the days leading up, there's always something on theme for you to enjoy.

Winter Carnival snow statues can only be seen to be believed!
If the allure of majestic snow statues drew you to the Copper Country, let the fun of winter exploration lead you beyond the campus grounds! Whether you're a return Husky Alumni looking to return to old stomping grounds, or new to the Keweenaw, there are so many ways to immerse yourself in cozy small-town winter charm and outdoor recreation.
