Mini Mart, Major Pasty

Krupp's Mini Mart

For travelers winding north on M-26 through Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula, Krupp's Mini Mart is often both the first stop into the Keweenaw and the last one on the way home. A hot pasty for the ride in. A frozen dozen tucked into a cooler for the drive back south. Somewhere between trailhead, fishing trip, and family tradition, this little Twin Lakes mini mart became something bigger - part convenience store, part community anchor, part Copper Country rite of passage.

Inside, the shelves hold a little bit of everything: spark plugs, bait, groceries, directions, and one of the Keweenaw’s most enduring foods. The pasty here isn’t just a meal. It’s generations of miners’ recipes and small tweaks passed down over time, folded carefully by hand and carried forward with pride.

And when you need a hand - a burnt spark plug, empty gas tank, or hungry belly - places like this still know how to make things right. In the Keweenaw, that’s what we call Copper Country hospitality.

Around Krupp’s Mini Mart:

Twin Lakes Stopover

Krupp’s Mini Mart is located in Twin Lakes, Michigan along a serene stretch of M-26. Just across from Trail 3, it’s a natural pause for snowmobilers, ATV/ORV riders, golfers and anyone seeking remote waterfalls and outdoor adventure. Twin Lakes State Park is just down the road, offering a classic Keweenaw shoreline backdrop to enjoy waterside recreation.

This is the kind of place where plans form on the fly. Grab a pasty, top off supplies, fix what needs fixing, and head back out toward the water, the woods, or wherever the trail leads next.

What Is a Pasty?

A Keweenaw Tradition, Folded by Hand

A pasty is a hand-held meat and root vegetable pie with deep roots in Michigan’s Copper Country, brought over by Cornish miners and adapted over generations into a regional staple. At Krupp’s Mini Mart, like many stops on the Keweenaw Pasty Trail, the tradition stays in the craft - hand-folded, sealed into that familiar half-moon shape, and baked until golden and portable. But within that shared foundation, each kitchen puts its own mark on it. Ingredients shift, seasoning changes, and hidden tricks get passed down quietly from one maker to the next, making every pasty a little different, and unmistakably their own.

What makes a Keweenaw pasty unique isn’t just the recipe. It’s the variation from kitchen to kitchen, the small differences in seasoning and ratio, and the pride each maker puts into their version. It’s history you can hold, eat, and take with you across the Keweenaw.
